But unlike standard shipments, transporting these items requires extra care. From strict regulations to special packaging and DGD documentation, there’s a lot to consider. Dangerous goods are items that can pose a risk to people, animals, or the environment if not handled properly during transport. Examples include: - Flammable liquids like paint or solvents - Batteries and accumulators - Corrosive substances like sulfuric acid - Radioactive materials such as isotopes The IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) are international guidelines for the safe air transport of dangerous goods. Based on the ICAO Technical Instructions, they are updated annually by IATA. ## Key points when shipping dangerous goods **1. Classification of the Substance** Before shipping, you must determine the correct hazard class (there are 9 total, such as flammable, toxic, or corrosive). Each class comes with its own set of regulations. **2. Packaging and Labelling** Dangerous goods must be packed in approved UN packaging and carry the correct labels and hazard symbols. Incorrect or incomplete labelling can result in delays or fines. **3. DG Documentation** Every shipment must include a properly filled-out DGD (Dangerous Goods Declaration) that matches the shipment content, MSDS, and corresponding labels exactly. **4. Training and Certification** Anyone handling dangerous goods must be certified according to IATA DGR standards. **5. Country-Specific Regulations** Shipping internationally?
